Industrial Hygiene Services

Industrial Hygiene is the science of recognizing and evaluating personnel exposure to health and physical hazards in the occupational environment.  ETM Industrial Hygienists can assess these hazards and develop a strategic monitoring plan to be quantify exposure levels and provide guidance in formulating solutions where exposure results indicate a concern that could negatively impact employee health.  Some of our Industrial Hygiene services include:

Chemical exposures: Our team provides full-spectrum exposure monitoring for a wide variety of OSHA-regulated chemical substances, including vapors, gases, dusts, and fumes.  Whether it's volatile organic compounds (VOCs), aldehydes, heavy metals, or a number of other concerns, we tailor our monitoring strategies to your specific industrial or commercial operations.  Our detailed exposure assessments provide the documentation necessary for regulatory compliance and worker safety management.

Noise: Our professionals conduct area surveys to identify high-noise zones and pinpoint specific equipment requiring controls.  For mobile workers or those in fluctuating noise environments, our certified team uses personal noise dosimeters to capture accurate time-weighted average (TWA) exposures to comply with OSHA occupational noise exposure standards and hearing conservation amendments.

Silica and other particulates: From abrasive blasting to fabrication processes, we provide specialized monitoring for high-risk industries.  Not sure if you need a full sampling program?  Let our experts conduct an initial assessment to determine if your exposures are below required levels.  Ensure your engineering controls are working effectively with our validation sampling as well.

Radon: Is your building's air quality costing you more than just comfort? According to the EPA, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States.  Our industrial hygienists conduct precise radon testing for a wide variety of settings, including manufacturing, warehousing, commercial buildings, schools, and more.

Asbestos: We are accredited to identify, quantify, and assess the condition of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) or suspect materials prior to the renovation or demolition of a structure or facility.  If ACMs are found, we are able to create rigorous, customized project design specifications that clarify the scope of work and establish the necessary parameters for safe, effective removal.  During the abatement process, we are able to conduct air sampling during the entirety of the project in order to ensure safety and compliance for building owners and occupants.

Under the EPA AHERA regulation, ETM can act as a school or district's Management Planner, as well as conduct the required 3-year re-inspection.

Safety Data Sheet (SDS) development: Manufacturers of chemicals utilize our expertise to evaluate proposed safety data sheets to make sure the appropriate warnings concerning chemical health effects, as well as proper selection of personal protective equipment (such as respirator selection and use), have been relayed so that the end user has the information necessary to protect themselves.
